An assessment of Oromo proverb that shows women impertinent:

The case of west and east Hararge zones in focus

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to assess a collection of Oromo proverb that shows women impertinent in West and East Hararge zones. To meet the objective of this study, a qualitative research design was employed .The data was collected from primary sources that were collected from elders and senior mothers who have well experienced of Oromo proverbs that shows women contempt in the study area. The data was collected through interview and focus group discussion. The finding of this study revealed that, those proverbs that commonly uses in the study area has been dispiriting women by influencing their jobs, affecting the psychosomatic of women, pressurizing women’s socio-political and it has observable that these discourteous of Oromo proverb has been humiliating women’s confidence and makes them more susceptible for losing their active participation on every aspects of the communities in West and East Hararge zones. The result of this study also confirmed that , the main causes of these Oromo proverbs that entirely uses to disrespect women has been developing from the negative attitude of Oromo communities of the study areas. Finally, the researcher recommended, proverbs that intentionally uses to insolence women that has been seen in these two study zones are highly affecting the socio-economic and political atmosphere of the women, therefore, it is highly recommended that the West and East Hararge zones social affairs and cultural and Tourism bureau need to work to change the negative attitudes of the communities towards women , teach the communities to refrain from using proverbs that neglects women and give awareness on certain proverbs that depressing women in the communities.

Argannoowwan qorannoo kanaan bira ga’amanis, mammaaksa Oromoo tuffii dubartootaa agarsiisan, kan dubartoota gadi qabuun, hojii akka hinhojjenne kan godhan, sammuu dubartootaa kan tuqan, siyaasaafi hawaasummaa isaaniirratti ofitti amantaa akka hinqabaanne kan godhan, hanga har’aattillee godinoota Harargee Bahaafi Lixaa keessatti kan mul’atudha.
